I have already been introduced to you via Barry McKeon quite recently and maybe I am going over old ground that you have since fixed up. Jane Horne and William Tomison had a daughter, Mary, but Jane also looked after her niece, Mary Thomson Horne (for some reason), daughter of her deceased brother, Alexander, and his not-deceased wife, Michel Thomson. Admittedly, it was the youngest child. When Jane's son William Tomison and his new wife, Margaret McGuffie emigrated to Australia (along with Jane's son, John) - it only took a year or two before Jane was off with most of her other children, Margaret, Mary and Charles and her niece, Mary Thomson Horne. My father (who has done the bulk of the family research) had both Marys returning to Orkney and marrying Henry Banks of Smiddybanks. However, Barry McKeon has discovered that Mary Tomison died almost as soon as she arrived in N.S.W. and was buried at Rookwood Cemetery (only record is in their records) and that the niece returned to Orkney in time for Jane's death and married Mr Banks. Her cousins, Charles & Margaret returned to New South Wales, remained unmarried and died there.
