I don't know if you are still here or not given the date of your message but my fathers ydna is also I1 and M253. I extended his SNP test and we are now categorized as I-L22(Norse) but still of the M253 group. Holy Cow, this may be indeed showing that my dad does somehow link to the Robert Moddi of Bergen/Bjarkoy, Norway, or to the early Johannes Moody who was from Kirkwall area of Orkney who went to Begen. All I know is that after I did a dna test on Ancestry (autosomal), the eastern most islands of Orkney and the entire island of Norway lit up in mass as to where my matches were located. Shapinsay to Sandwick including Kirkwall and Melsetter (where many Moodie's lived at one time), were all there. Also mainland Scotland from Ayrshire to Inverness to Caithness and Aberdeen, Fife etc. We have Proven ydna to many of the Moody's/Moodie's/Mudie's and the families to which they married into, namely the KENNEDY's as Gilbert MUDIE of Ayrshire "brother german" to the then bishop of Dornoch, William MOODIE. Gilbert married a Kennedy. Some branch of our dna family went to No. Ireland and in the town of Tandrgee we found a John Moodie/Moody who married an Elizabeth Shannon. Their son Rev. James Moody married Frances KENNEDY who was a daughter of Rev. Gilbert Kennedy a Presbyterian minist. whose family line is traced back in the FASTI records.
I have scads of Scandinavian surnames showing up in my fathers ydna results, but many of them are written in their language which I cannot read.
Hope this is of more help to you.
