Hi
Sorry if you are getting fed up with me prattling on, but on going through what I have on James Thomas Young I realised in the 1881 census there is a Peter Gemmill (aged 76) living with James & Elizabeth at High Todhill. He is shown as a boarder & widower, retired farmer who was born Fenwick. He isn't on the 1891 census with them. I thought at first that he was probably Elizabeths father, but I have Elizabeth's father Andrew Gemmill (High Gainford).

I thought there were a lot of Youngs in Ayrshire but I think the Gemmill name seems to be just as complicated!

Another connection we have with the Gemmill family is a William John Gemmill who married Helen Grace Gibson (daughter of my grandfathers brother William Service Young) in 1955 in Minnigaff Parish. I still occasionally see one of their daughters, I must as if her dad came from Ayrshire.

Do you have any marriage details of Christina Young's siblings?

I go to Newton Stewart quite regularly to visit family, so next time I will visit the library there and see if I can find the death of Margaret Hopkin Gemmill.

I have lived in Wigtownshire all my life (and that's quite a few years now). I don't know anything about High Gainford I'm afraid but lots of these farms get split up over the years, or the land gets bought for housing or roads.

Mary
