Sorry to disagree but Larkins was originally a saxon name. Most of the family joined Harold at Hastings in 1066 and were disinherited by William The Conquerer so left for Ireland where they prospered. On prominent part of the clan did not rally to harold so kept their lands. This family is still prominent along the borders of kent and Sussex in England. In the last century H.E.Bates wrote about the family in his books usually referred to as 'The darling Buds of May'
