Tom Cook,

The archbishop's uncle was Fr. Edward Quigley, born in Cashel in 1810 and died August 2, 1883. He is buried in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Rochester. He was ordained (according to one source) on September 15, 1850 (40 years old?) or, according to the Buffalo diocesan archives in 1837. Where he was between ordination in '37 or '50 and his first known assignment in '61 is unknown. In either case he may have been ordained in Ireland (or France)and so in the intervening years he may simply have been finding his way in the new land before being accepted by the Rochester diocese (all of Western NY State.) He was stationed at Lima, NY in 1861, was assistant at the Rochester cathedral 1863-65, pastor of Buffalo's Immaculate Conception 1865-69, where his nephew, young James Edward lived while studying at the LaSalle Christian Brothers' St. Joseph's College Prep. He was pastor at St. Vincent de Paul in Attica, NY 1879-83, where he died.
