Hi - I have the following information on Margaret Roach.

She was from Tipperary County Ireland. I have her parents names as John Roach and Bridget Dunphy but no other information on them. Margaret and John Tobin, whom she eventually married, came to the U.S. on the Bark Louisa which left Liverpool and arrived in Baltimore on May 30, 1834. John and Margaret later sailed to New Orleans on the Philadelphia, arriving there on October 20, 1834. Their names are on both ship manifests and her surname in both cases is Roach.

Not sure when John and Margaret tied the knot. There is a record of a John Tobin-Margaret Roach marriage in Philadelphia on June 1, 1834 - but I'm not sure that the logistics make sense as this was just two days after they landed in Baltimore (why go to Philly?) and doesn't explain why her name is "Roach" on the ship to New Orleans in October. The couple eventually settled in Kane Co, IL around 1840. Margaret died in 1859.

Margaret also had a brother John who settled in Kane County and is buried in the same cemetery as Margaret. I am not aware of whether John had children - none were listed in the 1850 census. In 1880 John Roach was living with John Tobin and his second wife and is listed as Tobin's brother-in-law.

Hope this helps. Email me at macknife13@prodigy.net if you want to make direct contact with me.
