Emigration from Ireland wasn't just about the Famine years....The entire nineteenth century saw emigration of hundreds of thousands each decade....the population of Ireland was about 8 million in 1841 and 4 million by 1911.

Survivors of the Famine were still living in miserable subsistence poverty and emigration was seen as a necessary move for those who could afford it. Entire families leaving for America was common.

How did they pay for it? Assisted by family already in America or maybe some assisted scheme from a landlord or maybe by selling every article they possessed.
