Am looking for any information about the MACKAY family (also known as MACKIE, MCKEE, MCKEY, MACKEY, MCGEE, etc.) in Co Monaghan.
I have a Edward MACKAY bc1800 in Monaghan, in/around Aghabog, enlisting in the 63rd Regiment of Foot on 08 Sep 1819. Edward was stationed in Van Diemans Land (aka VDL, now Tasmania) around 1832.
It is thought that Edward had two wives - Mary MCGRATH and Ann TAYLOR. If a marriage took place with Mary, it would have taken place in Ireland; if a marriage took place with Ann, it would have taken place in England, and most likely around Chatham, Kent. Neither marriage has been successfully sourced.
He had 3 known daughters with Ann: -
. Mary Jane (as MACKEY) b1827 in Glen, Cavan;
. Sarah (as MACKEY) bc1829 possibly VDL; and
. Elizabeth (as MACKAY) b1831 in VDL.
He had sons as well, but their respective mothers are unclear:-
. Francis (referenced as MACKEY and MACKIE)
. William (as MACKAY)
It is also possible that Edward and Mary had a son - William John MACKAY or John William MACKAY, bc1820 - though not yet proven. This William John/John William is separate/different to the William shown in the above list.
Any information gratefully accepted!
