John J. McDonald, b. 1867 in Shotts Iron Works, Calderhead, Lanarkshire, emigrated to Westmoreland County Pennsyslvania USA about 1892.
His parents were Patrick McDonald and Bridget McCann who married 27 May 1854 or 1856 (writing not clear on Scotland civil register) in Monaghan Ireland. I don't know if this referred to the county or town. Bridget died shortly after the birth of her last son John J. McDonald at the age of 26. Older children who were born in Ireland were Mary, Patrick and Thomas.
Bridget's parents, as listed in the Scotland Civil Register, are John McCann and Catherine Boylan . Patrick McDonald's parents are listed as Thomas McDonald and Jane Connelly.
I'm assuming that the Connellys, Boylans and McCanns were probably also from Monaghan.
Does anyone know of these families? I'm wondering if there is family still in Ireland or where to look for records in Ireland. I believe Patrick, son of Patrick and Bridget McDonald stayed in Scotland. At least he was there in the 1901 census. Son Thomas died in Scotland at about the age of 21. Daughter Mary married Robert Clifford and moved also to Westmoreland County Pennsylvania. There may have been other children who were not living with the family in the first census record in Scotland I found them in, 1871.
Thanks for any help.
