Anyone know what the term "Roy" or "Roye" means in front of a name or location?

On the recently published Tithes, I see the following "Denomination" (a column usually used for Townlands):

Roye Hamil and Roye Sweeney. In both cases, there are Hamils living in Roye Hamil and Sweeneys living in Roye Sweeney, so I assume it is some kind of term meaning "land" or "plot" but that is just my unscientific guess.
