I have a copy of the book A History of Corpus Christi Parish Northern Bay by Edward Chafe. Page 91 says....'account written in 1931 describes how the English's came to Job's Cove. Thomas English left Ireland in 1750 and settled at Lance Cove, Bell Island. When the French invaded in 1762, Thomas English fled to Northern Bay for safety. He decided to stay there when he discovered the abundance of bait available. Thomas moved to Job's Cove in 1776 and claimed the droke. he resided there for three years until the stream overflowed into his house. Then he moved atop the high cliffs above the droke. Thomas English became one of the colony's wealthiest Irish planters. Oral history claims that he was a native of Pilltown, near Mooncoin, Co. Kilkenny.
