May's originally from Sussex, England. Granted 7000 acres in Waterford in 1700's. Sir Algemon May & Dorothy

Edward May, MP Waterford 1717-1729 aquired Rockett'scastle and property and renamed it Mayfield, he had a number of mills at Portlaw.

Sir James May Barnonet, MP Waterford 1759-1798 also High Sheriff Waterford 1752 son of James May of Mayfield & Hon. Letitia Ponsonby
Tithe Applotments 1823-1837:

1826 Lady May, Parish Kilmaleague Townland Ballyshoneen

1834 Lady Jane, Trinity Without, TL Trinity, Waterford
+6 other Jane May's

1827 Henry/Henry F. Williams Parish *Kilmolash, TL Milmolash
5 listed.

So this Henry likely well off, the complete Tithe's with amounts of land are at the National Archives, Dublin

Griffith Valuation is the next census substitute taken in Waterford 1851:

7B land 9.0.5
9 land 8.1.12

Don't see a house on either property and the other two are
not in the same Poor Law Union. A PLU covered 12 mi.

Waterford baptisms and marriages are on line and available through an Irish History Foundation.
Trinity CofI from 1698-1961
Dungarven CofI from 1740

RC Trinity without 1729, Trinity Within 1797,
Tramore 1798

this is rare in Ireland to have parish records this early and hopefully you will be able to find your baptisms and marriages records. If people died after 1864 you should be able to find them on

The Waterford Library has some good info, plus some death records. Look for the link on United Kingdom+Ireland+Waterford or +Waterford.

Wills Index 1536-1810

1704 Sir Algernon May, par. East Greenwich, Kent, knt

1710 & 1729 & 1742 Edward May, Esquire
1711 Elizabeth May
1738 Andrew May, Gentleman

Telephone book for Waterford, no surname May.

Williams, 23 and 1 in Dungarven*

Cantwell, 15 but none Dungarven area but mostly Tramore has English records as well as Ireland.

good luck!
