Hello Wilma,

According to the Mormon Church's online Family History Library Catalog, there are gaps in the marriage registers for St. Mary Church, Athlone, Westmeath. The gaps happen to occur between the years 1827 and 1834, unfortunately.

However, the baptism records you may be interested in cover the years 1813-1827 and 1834-1868. Any of the children born and baptized to James Evers and Susan Salisbury in this Parish, should have their baptisms recorded in the St. Mary's Parish registers.

Below is information and the microfilm number about the parish registers. You can order the microfilm from your local Family History Center:

Parochial registers of St. Mary's Athlone (Westmeath), 1813-1984
Authors Catholic Church. Parish of St. Mary's Athlone (Westmeath) (Main Author)

Notes Microfilm of original at Athlone, Co. Westmeath, Ireland.

Some writing is faded and illegible.

The Catholic parish of St. Mary's (Athlone) covers the same area as the civil parish. St. Mary's is in the Westmeath part of Athlone, in the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise. There are two chapels: St. Mary's in Athlone, and Our Lady of Peace in Coosan.

Baptisms, 1813-1827, 1834-1970; marriages, 1813-1827, 1834-1868; deaths, 1813-1827. FHL BRITISH Film 1279225 Items 4 - 14

In addition Wilma, I found information about James Evers' and Susan Salisbury's birth/baptism, marriage, and deaths at the Mormon Church's Ancestral File. These records were submitted to the Mormon Church by a lady from New Zealand named Barbara Rodger. More about Barbara Rodger a little later in this email.

The record you see that follows shows the information about James Evers.

The record also provides the name of his father. Please see below:

James EVERS (AFN: 230L-DFH)
Sex: M

Birth: 1813
St Mary's, Athlone, Westmeath, Eire
Death: 5 May 1881
Huggies Hole, Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland

Father: Abraham EVERS (AFN: 230L-G3R)
Mother: Ms EVERS (AFN: 230L-G40)

Spouse: Susan SALISBURY (AFN: 230L-DGP)
Marriage: 23 Feb 1832
Westmeath, Eire

Next is information from the Ancestral File for Susan Salisbury:

Sex: F

Birth: 1815
St Mary's, Westmeath, Eire
Death: 2 Jun 1898
East Calder, Kirknewton, Scotland

Father: Abraham SALISBURY (AFN: 230L-JGD)
Mother: Jane MCGUIRE (AFN: 230L-JHL)

Spouse: James EVERS (AFN: 230L-DFH)
Marriage: 23 Feb 1832
Westmeath, Eire

The records, if accurate, show that James was born in 1813 and that Susan was born in 1815. The baptism records for St. Mary's cover both of those years. The microfilm of the St. Mary's Parish Registers, could very well contain their baptism entries.

It also appears that the fathers of James and Susan were named Abraham.

Barbara Roger has also submitted information to the Ancestral File about the births of several of the children born to James Evers and Jane Salisbury in Ireland. She has also submitted information for the birth of one of the children in Scotland.

I'm not sure if you have these records or not, but if you would like me to email them to you, please let me know.

I'm also not sure if you know Barbara Rodger of not. She may be a cousin of yours.

You can write to her at:

Barbara Rodger,
20 Dalwood Grove,
Palmerston North,
New Zealand

Don't hesitate to write if you have any questions Wilma.

Best Wishes,

Dave Boylan
