You can sort of guess at when they were born and use an average of age 20. Marriages average 20 years after that,
children within 1-2 years, big families every two years.

Assuming Eliza was the 1st. child James Gumbleton would of been born around 1845 (1840-1855) Margaret same age or probably 2-3 years younger, or in some cases older, more than you would think.

An RC marriage in 1864 would just make the Civil Registrations.

The records maybe on the Cork N.East genealogy office
is on an on-line website. The name I can't put here as although it is part of a not-for-profit Foundation they do charge a fee, and the message board is for 'free' information only. If you contact me at
I can give it to you. There are 4 Maurice Gumbleton's born in Cork 1862, 1869, 1874, 1891. James 1851, 1856, 1884
Two marriages for the name James 1864 and 1885. Birth record some with father's name, mother's name and usually maiden name place/parish and date. Marriage only has both father's of the couple and perhaps witnesses depending on how much the priest put in the ledger and how much the person transcribing wrote down or interpreted correctly.

I think the Gumbleton family would go back aways in Cork as
their name is in Cork at the Tithe's 1820 and in the 1824
Commercial Directories:

1824 Tallow:
Henry C. Gumbleton, Esquire living at Curriglass House
Richard Gumbleton, Esq. living at Castleview

1846 Tallow
Richard Gumbleton, Esquire same
Hy Gumbleton - same

1867 Richard John Maxwell Gumbleton, County Magistrate
Glentore, Carriglass (inherited from Henry/Hy?)

No James in the Directories.

1901 Census:
Maurice Gumbleton 33, farmer
17 Knockadoon, Kilmacdonagh, Cork
Hanna 40
Maurice 8, John 7, Lizzie 5 step-children surname Hankard
Mary 18, Bridget 14, William 16, Michael 12

1911 there are other Gumbleton's but no Maurice.

1853 a Valuation for taxes took place in Cork called
Griffith's Valuation - free at
and (+ commercial directories)

EG: There are 14 properties

Richard Gumbleton, Parish of Lismore-Mocollop, Townland
Marshtown is a land owner 'in fee', he was also a landlord

Property 2A abcdefgh 196 acres 1 rood, 8 perches, outbuildings and house

rentals 1. house, outbuildings and land 80.2.34
3a house, outbujildings, land 54.0.34

Shean Townland
1A&B house office land 38.1.4 and 2Aba 37.0.18 house & land

Significant holdings - there maybe more but you could see
these on askireland - as listed above

Your James would of been too young to be an occupier of land
but there is a James, possibily father? but you wouldn't think he would need to be someone else's tenant:

James Gumbleton Kilmacdonagh Parish, Townland Ballypherode, tenant of Montifort, Longfield property 1a house, outbuilding, and land 3.2.23

Was surprised to see no Maurice as it it unusual for the times and thought it would be a handed down name.

Cornelius Daly, Parish of Tallow, Townland Parkdotia, tenant of John Walsh property 7b house and small garden

There are 165 other Daly's in Waterford.

Not sure what other information you would want but you should post the Gumbleton name on the Cork board as well.and after you have sorted through this material and checked the websites you can also ask for more information.
