Classification: Query
10 Griffen and 2 Pierce in the current phone book for Co. Clare

Griffith Valuation 1855:

Edmond Pierce, Parish of Kilmurray, Townland Finnormore,
Poor Law Union Kilrush, tenant of Thomas Crowe

#6a house, land, outbuilding 10 acres 3 roods 37 perches

Edmund Curry tenant of Ellen Pierce #7a herd's house and land 16.1.5
Jane #4a house, outbuilding and land 20.3.7
James #4b outbuilding and garden

Edmund Pierce, Parish of Kiltoraght, Townland Ballynacarhagh, Poor Law Union Ennistimon, tenant of
Lord Inchinquinn
#17a HOUSE, OUTBUILDING LAND 21.2.23
#18 LAND 47.1.17

Edmund Pierce, Parish of O'Briensbridge, Townland Ardtaggle
Poor Law Union Limerick, tenant of Gibbon Thos. Fitzgibbon

#49a house, outbuilding, land 3.0.2

Townland of Cappakea #35 land 3.2.10

To decide how many Edmund Pierce's there are - count the houses in this case 3. Having extra land was often necessary for farming and very common.

Clare is one of 3 counties that doesn't belong to a
Irish History Foundation that has records on line, its not for profit but fee paying.

Clare has a genealogy office

www.clareroots.com

Ancestry.com has I believe RC parish records from the
National Library in Dublin, also the latter day saints
has these records as well.
www.familysearch.org
do not use the main page as this is for searches of bmd's after 1864 and the commencement of civil records.
Scroll down the page on the left you will see UK/Ireland
click on this then down the page to Ireland.

At least you only have 3 parish's to choose from, you should be able to find the births of the sons Michael and John. A birth record usually has mother's name and maiden name. You should see their mother's name in their own children. Depending on when the father went to Auz. might determine when his wife died? if after 1864 would be
on www.familysearch.org but if not also a parish record.

other sources:
www.censusfinder.com United Kingdom+Ireland+county
www.igp-web.com + county
www.from-ireland.net will have microfilm numbers for LDS
film that you can see at your closes LDS Heritage Center
There is also a gravestone index.
