I didn't know Martin Brennan, but I have relatives who did. My mother had the fun of joining cousins on Scattery a couple of years ago. Including her, there was a descendant of each of four Griffin siblings born in the 1830s. My mother brought home small stone pieces from 4 ancestral homes, both on the island and around Kilrush. She also smuggled a piece of an ivy she found growing in the stone wall across from the village on the island. She brought it home in her sock and rooted it successfully. Imagine the hoopla in customs had she been caught....grandmother caught smuggling!

The island has stood there for a long time. It was easy to look over at it from the shore, imagining the days when there was a thriving community and active boating back and forth from Cappa. Hopefully I will get another opportunity to visit before too long.
