The next meeting of the Oxfordshire Family History Society will take place on Monday 20 May 2013. It will be held at the usual venue at Exeter Hall, Oxford Road, Kidlington, Oxford OX5 1AB. Doors open at 7.15pm for coffee, help with both genealogy and computers, and the bookstall.
**Please note that the meeting takes place a week earlier than normal, as the usual fourth Monday meeting evening falls on a Bank Holiday**.
The subject of the talk at 8.00pm is "The Duke and the Miner's Daughter : the fascinating truth behind a Forest of Dean family myth". This will be presented by Tony Hadland.
Family tradition said that Tony Hadland’s great-grandfather, Thomas Young, was the illegitimate son of the Duke of Raglan. Thomas’s mother was the teenage daughter of a miner in the Forest of Dean. Using techniques anybody can employ, Tony discovered that the truth was even more interesting than the legend. He will described his quest next Monday !
Our speaker Tony Hadland is a former Vice-Chairman of this society, and is also a past editor of our journal, the "Oxfordshire Family Historian". He is currently Chairman of the Oxfordshire Local History Association. A more detailed biography of Tony appears on his splendid blog and website at :-www.hadland.net
All members, potential members and their guests are welcome.
