I am researching my Mackie ancestors from Aberdeenshire who I thought were all Scottish until I found my 5th great grandfather, Thomas Mackie b.1763, who is from Sloley along with the rest of his family. It looks as though his previous generations went by Mack as well. Not sure how or why they changed it to Mackie.. I have a marriage record for him and my 5th great grandmother, Margaret Walker b. 1764, in Aberdeen and then it appears he settled there. I'm curious as to why someone would go that distance at that time.
Would love to hear from any one who also has these Mackies in their family!
