Hello, many thanks for your thought provoking reply. Much of what you have stated I didn't know, i.e. the change on 1901 census form M to S meaning they could have been separated.

On her marriage certificate to Henry in 1898 it says he was a Blacksmith in the Railway works in Swindon and Sarah was a Tailoress.

I agree that to remarry Edwin Manners she could have said he had died in the Woolwich Arsenal or as you said he could have disappeared and remarried. But with a very common name it might be difficult to find another marriage.

I think it might be more feasible to find a death certificate with the miss spellings in Swindon or London. What is very strange is that he was born in 1867 and his marriage certificate in 1898 states he was 27 not 31. So an added problem to find him by age as well

Again thanks for your help, I will keep you posted if anything comes to light!!!!!

Regards

Margaret
