Which name do bastards take? Low, Ronals, Bookley, Barnes

My ancestor was a bastard. He was born "John Ronals or Low , a bastard child born in Buerton". The parish record records it as such.

Can anything be inferred from the order of the surnames? Is "Ronals" his father? or mother? Or "Low"? Is there pattern to it? Bastard father comes first or last?He ended up keeping the name "Low". Does that indicate it was his mother's surname?

Can anything be inferred from this? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Record is found here:
Bishop's transcripts for Audlem, Cheshire, 1579-1900.
Entry for December 26th, 1711, "John Ronals or Low".
