I am trying to find information about my great grandparents, who came here from Russia in the early 1900's. They spoke no English. I have no idea what region they came from but if you will bear with me on this, my g-grandmother came from (phonetic spelling) Zenowia. Remember, that is a phonetic spelling, I have no idea how the name of the town is spelled. This is what it sounded like to me when I heard it. Someone suggested that she was from Georgia. Their tombstones bear different spellings and my grandmother's baptismal certificate still different. His tombstone reads:
PAUL MYTAREVSKY 1879-1944. Her tombstone reads:
MAPI(reversed)R MNTAPEBCKA(reversed)R 1883-1926. The more common spelling used by most of the kids was METROWSKY.
I know they left one daughter behind and my g-grandfather had a couple of brothers as well. Otherwise we know nothing of them. We can find no "paper trail" of them leaving Russia or entering the US. If anyone can offer any assistance, I would be most appreciative.
