We are trying to find information on Nathan Weil. Nathan was born 4/12/1868 and died 7/21/1920. Also we are looking for information on Peritz Weil, Nathan's father who was still alive as an elderly man in 1920 in Poland according to his son, Nathan's obituary, which we were able to get from the Bradford paper.
We are also wanting information on Peritz's wife, Sarah (Abramowitz) and they had at least 3 children: Nathan, and 2 sisters.
Nathan (born in Russia, according to death certificate, obviously not filled out by him) is our grandfather but we can find no further information about him than what follows. Nathan left either Poland or possibly Russia and came to the US in the late 1800's and settled in Bradford, PA. His
death certificate says his father is Peritz and his mother is Sarah. They are both supposed to be from Russia.
Family lore is that Nathan came to the US as a very young man and walked to Bradford, PA and began working in the oil business.
Nathan's death certificate mentions both Russia and Poland as the birthplaces of Peritz and Sarah. Nathan's obituary says his father was alive at his death in Poland along with Nathan's 2 sisters.
There is mention of only one other name, Solomon Weil at the same address as Nathan in the Bradford Directories (prior to Nathan's marriage to Rachel Jacobs.) He is mentioned as being a "student" and with Nathan Weil in Bradford in the early 1900's. We do not know what relation, if any,he is to Nathan. He is only mentioned once in the directories which were printed every other year.
Nathan's tombstone says his father is Pinchas, not Peritz. Again, Nathan probably did not order the inscription on his stone. Nathan and his wife, Rachel are both buried in the Jewish Cemetery, Beth El, in Bradford, but we could find no one else named Weil nor anyone buried near them that would
seem to be related to the Weil side of the family.
We sent for naturalization papers and there are none. We have looked for a marriage license in Bradford, and Oil City area and found none. In requesting historical and genealogical society information from Bradford
and Oil City, we were given the name of a Rabbi S.Weil who went from Oil City to Bradford to serve at the temple there at the same time that Nathan lived there.
We have obtained a temple pamphlet mentioning this Rabbi S Weil as well as a Rabbi Nathan Weil in the same time frame, but our Nathan would have been a teenager at this time the document mentions the Rabbi Nathan Weil.
Much of the information is in the write up in the Bradford paper on the day of Nathan's death.
