William John Black was born in Scotland in 1886 and married Jessie Wishart there in 1918. they are recorded on a sea voyage between Shanghai and Canada in 1933 and he is believed to have worked on the Tientsin Pukow Railway, Pukow, Nanking, China. His sister Jane Fraser Black is believed to have died in Shanghai in 1920. They were the children of a country schoolmaster from the Angus Glens and clearly suffered from the famous Scottish travel bug. I would appreciate any information which is available on either of them as they are proving very hard to track.
William and Jessie had at least one daughter who died in Arbroath in 1995 so there are likely descendants out there who know why they were travelling in China between the World Wars.
