Ethel Granger Schultz was a progressive woman and gave and donated much time to charities. She was an advocate for women's suffrage, a devoted patron of the Bethesda hospital and the Zanesville Y.W.C.A. Schultz was an active member of the League of Women Voters.
The Schultz mansion was designed by her brother, a noted architect.
She was also active in the Daughters of the American Revolution in Fairfield and Muskingum Counties and a relative of Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman.

Upon her death her country estate on South River road was willed to her very dear companion Sybil Burton.
St. James Episcopal church, Sixth street, Zanesville, Ohio contains lovely stained glass windows she devoted in memory to her parents and husband, William.
William Darlington Schultz is buried next to her in Woodlawn cemetery Zanesville, Ohio.
