I am not sure about children. I has been sometime from reading the book but I will ask my brother Steve or family historian. As far as NC I was told it was names after either Peyton or Samual Wilkes as was in MO & OR. They are my GGG/Ggrandfathers.
Darn it, not I must go and check out the book again. Twenty years ago was a while.
From family stories as we grew up (and you hear everything) John Wilkes, married Eliz Mead, was named after him as well as other Wilkes that hailed from the UK. Our family history book only goes back to 1760 or so. But know that we have found Peytons Wilkes's father we can go further back.
