Esten Stein, Jr.
Esten Stein, Jr. died at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Adolph Stein, Saturday, Nov. 24.
Funeral services were held at the home and the Spring Lake Lutheran church Tuesday, Nov. 27, and burial was made in the family lot at the Spring Lake cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. S. Berven, of Spring Valley.
Mr. Stein was born in Nordland, Norway, May 14, 1852, but the following year his parents moved from there down to Lille Elvedalen. At the age of 22 he came to America, settling in the town of Spring Lake. During the first twenty years of his stay here he worked for Knapp-Stout Co. Since that time he has lived continually in Spring Lake.
Early last summer he fell and broke his thigh; this accident left him in a weakened condition, and he was able to move around only by aid of a crutch. He seemed, however, to be getting along about as well as could be expected for a man of his age, but Saturday evening, Nov. 17, he had a severe intestinal hemorrhage. The next day he appeared so well again that no fears of any immediate serious consequences were entertained. On Monday, however, he had another very severe hemorrhage; after this it soon became apparent that his death was only a question a few days. The best medical aid was given him, but death came to his relief the following Saturday. He is survived by an only sister, Marie Stein, who also makes her home with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Adolph Stein.
