Good to hear from you. Your name was just given to me by Joachim Eitel as someone who is looking for info about the St.Nazianz Colony.
I have looked at some of this census info both online and at archival locations in Manitowoc Co. Actually I was looking for ancestral information about Franz Xaver Schwab and his wife Maria Pfister - and a possible 2nd wife, Johanna Fischer. Joachim was kind enough to share his great German Schwab ancestral materials this week in exchange for my American info. Now I'm focusing on the wives.
So you know, the name is actually spelled Kautza. That's the way it's spelled in the St.Gregory church records and on the church cemetery's gravestones in St.Nazianz. Wherever you found your version, I suspect your Kautzer is an Americanized or Germanized version of a Polish/Prussia original. Also Annie Kautza Schwab's mother was actually Anna Maria Bechmann. That's the way it is on Annie and Ambrose's marriage record at St.Gregory's.
Feel free to contact me directly at my email address. Thanks
