Kari Larson Jacobson
Kari Larson Jacobson was born in Lille Elvedalen, Norway, on October 11, 1857. At the age of 18 years she came to America, making her home at first with her oldest brother, Christ Larson, in the town of Spring Lake.
On June 17, 1881, she was married to Jacob Jacobson, and settled on the farm now occupied by their son Arthur and family. Nine children were born to them: Marie (Mrs. Joe Johnson) of Elmwood; Laura (Mrs. Alvin Reed) of Los Angeles, CA; Charley, Arthur and Henry of Spring Lake; Julia (Mrs. George Wild) of Rock Elm; Viola (Mrs. Herbert Schofield) of Cameron and Ida, at home. Lauritz the oldest of the children, died in 1920. Mrs. Jacobson was also preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1943.
In 1927 Mr. and Mrs. Jacobson retired from the farm and moved to Spring Valley to make their home in the declining years. In spite of her advanced age, Mrs. Jacobson has been in fairly good health until about two months ago when she was taken ill with the flu. At first, hopes were entertained for her recovery, but as the days went by she gradually grew weaker and on Saturday, May 18, death came to her relief, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 7 days.
Besides her children, she is survived by 10 grand children and a host of more distant relatives. She was the last of eight children, five brothers and two sisters.
The funeral was held from the home and the Spring Lake Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, Rev. Berven officiating. Burial was made in Spring Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
