The Rev. Clyde M. VanHoose
The Rev. Clyde M. Van­Hoose, 78, of Mount Gilead, and for­merly of Lewis Cen­ter, went home to be with the Lord Mon­day (Aug. 22, 2011) at his res­i­dence sur­rounded by his lov­ing family.

He was born Feb. 20, 1933 in John­son County, Ky., retired from Colum­bus Auto Parts and was the assis­tant pas­tor of the North Wood­bury Freewill Bap­tist Church. He loved spend­ing time out­doors in his gar­den and wood­work­ing. He was a U.S. Army vet­eran (1953 to 1955) dur­ing the Korean Conflict.

He is sur­vived by wife, Shirley (Knight) Saun­ders; chil­dren, “Butch” (Cathy) Van­Hoose of Sun­bury, Wanda (Mike) Rucker of Card­ing­ton and Pauline (Gary) Mes­sick of Mount Gilead; nephew whom he raised, Mike McVay of Danville; four grand­chil­dren, Ed Van­Hoose, Amanda (Scott Annett) Mes­sick, Whit­ney (Evan Mor­gan) Van­Hoose and Cate­lyn Van­Hoose; great-granddaughter, Ari­anna Van­Hoose and her mother, Rochelle Wag­goner; stepchil­dren, Rob Saun­ders of Bid­well, Tony (Tracy) Saun­ders of Mount Gilead, Tim (Janie) Saun­ders of Dublin, Bill Saun­ders of Marengo, Ava (Jason) Hamp­ton of Card­ing­ton and Chad Saun­ders of Marengo; nine step­grand­chil­dren and four step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Ralph “P. J.”

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Albert and Chris­tena (Howard) Van­Hoose;
first wife, Margie (Hol­brook) Van­Hoose in 2000; three broth­ers and three sis­ters, (Carmelita) Van­Hoose of Saly­ersville, Ky; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

The fam­ily will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednes­day at Fer­gu­son Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St. (Ohio 161W) where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs­day, Aug. 25, with the Rev. Dorsel Mes­sick and the Rev. Rob Rat­cliff offi­ci­at­ing. Inter­ment will be at Big Darby Ceme­tery where the Union County Honor Guard will con­duct full mil­i­tary honors.
