Project Instructions
This is a collection of school records in West Yorkshire.

Form type can be identified by keywords found at the top of the image. The Admission form type will have "Admitted" or "Admission", the Commitment form type will have "Conduct during Detention" and the Discharge form type will have "Discharge" or "Discharged".

On Admission form type the Event date can be located by the key words: "Date of Admission" or "Admitted". On the Discharge form type by the key words: "Date of Discharge", "Discharged" or "Licensed". On the Commitment form type by the key words: "Where and when convicted" or "Where and when Committed".

Post 1914 form types will need to be identified. A Post 1914 form can be identified as any record that has an event date that is past 1914. We will not be keying these records because of privacy restrictions.

Gender

Key the gender in full using the dictionary to assist you. The location of the Gender can be in the header of the image or by the Given name. If Gender is located at the top of the image then copy down for each record.

Birth Day

When provided, key the Day from the Birth date which can be located by the title of: "Date of Birth".

Birth Month

Key the month in its three-letter abbreviation from the birth date using the dictionary provided to assist you. If the month appears as a number, key as seen. When provided, Birth Date can be located by the title: "Date of Birth".

Birth Year

Key the two or four digit number designated as the birth year in the birth date. The Year must be either two or four digits. When provided, Birth Date can be located by the title: "Date of Birth".

Event Day

Key the Day from the Event date. Event date can be located by the key words: "Where and when convicted" or "Where and when Committed". If the year is past 1914 the record should be classified as a Post 1914 form type. If "ditto" marks appear then copy from record above.

The Discharge form type can be identified by having the words "Discharge" or "Discharged" at the top of the form. The Admission date may be listed on a Commitment or Discharge record. Use the Discharge form type only for Discharge records.

Use the “Cover page, Section header, etc” type for images that don’t contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.

Use the “Image with no data” type for images that don’t contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only the blank background or an image with a microfilm target on it.
