Project Instructions This collection contains a typewritten index to death records in Wayne County, Indiana for the years 1882-1920.

From these indexes we are keying the person's name, gender, age at death, death date, and death city. If an image contains names with no death information for any of the individuals or no names at all, mark the image as "Cover Page, Section Header, etc."

If a name appears multiple times on a page and all the information except book and page number are the same, only key that individual once.

When keying death city, do not key "Twp" if it appears after the city name. If the value is "Wayne County" leave the field as blank. Key any hospital names as seen. Some of the city locations will not appear in the dictionary and will need approval. Use the F7 key to quickly approve all locations that do not appear in the dictionary.

When keying age at death, if a fraction appears and the fraction is out of 12 (5/12) key as fraction. If the fraction is out of 30 (11/30) key the first number of the fraction and add the word "days" (11 days). If the age is in weeks or hours, such as 7 wks or 15 hrs, key as seen.

Keying Samples

Cover page, Section header, etc

File:Wayne_County_Cover_Page.JPG

Use the “Cover page, Section header, etc” type for images that don’t contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.

Image with no data

Use the “Image with no data” type for images that don’t contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only the blank background or an image with a microfilm target on it.

There should be no "Image with no data" form types in this project.
