Project Instructions
This collection contains worker identification cards issued to those working in the Lodz ghetto.

The majority of the images will be of worker identification cards. They will either be of the front of the card or of the back of the card.

Occasionally other images will appear. These images will be of a family card, which contain all members in a household, or of information cards which provide basic information about an individual.

Family Card

Choose the "Family Card" form type when the image is of a list of members in a household.

Prefix

Key any titles before the given name, such as "Dr," "Rev," "Mr," or "Mrs," as seen on the record using the drop-down menu provided to assist you. It will be found on the line marked "Vorname."

Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person as seen on the record, using the drop-down menu provided to assist you. It will be found on the line marked "Vorname."

Surname

Key the surname as seen on the record, using the drop-down menu provided to assist you. It will be found on the line marked "Name" or "Familienname."

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III," following the surname of the primary person as seen on the record, using the drop-down menu provided to assist you.

Resident Address

Key the resident address as seen. It will be on the line named "wohnh" or "adresse."

Relation to Head

Key the relationship of the individual to the head of household as seen on the record using the drop-down menu provided to assist you. It will be in the "Verse. Gred" column.

Birth Year or Age

Key the value as seen on the record from the "Altern" column.

ID Card Back

Choose the "ID Card Back" form type when the image is of the back of an identification card.

Profession

Key the profession as seen on the record using the drop-down menu provided to assist you. The profession will be found on the lined named "Erlernter Beruf."

Second Occupation

Key the second occupation as seen on the record using the drop-down menu provided to assist you. The second occupation will be found on the line named "Angelernter Beruf."

Gender

Key the gender as seen on the record using the drop-down menu provided to assist you. The gender will be found on the line named "Geschlecht."

Age

Key the age as seen. The age will be found on the line named "Alter am 1.1.1943"

Working Since Day

Key the working since day from the working since date. The working since date will be found on the line names "Arbeitet seit." All dates will be in day-month-year format.

Working Since Month

Key the working since month from the working since date using the drop-down menu provided to assist you.  The working since date will be found on the line names "Arbeitet seit." All dates will be in day-month-year format.

ID Card Front

Choose the "ID Card Front" when the image is of the front of an identification card. It will say

Photo

Key Yes if there is a photo present and No if there is no photo present on the ID card

Worker Number

Key the worker number as seen. The worker number will be found on the line named "Arbeiter Nr."

Surname

Key the surname as seen on the record, using the drop-down menu provided to assist you. It will be found on the line marked "Name" or "Familienname."

Suffix

Key the Factory Number from the field following the words "ist in dem Betrieb Nr." Key as seen.

Factory Name

Key the Factory Name from the field directly below the Factory Number. Key as seen.

Worker Assignment at Factory

Key the Worker Assignment at Factory from the field below the Factory Name following the word "als", using the provided dictionary.

ID Card Day

Key the ID Card Day from the field on the left side of the card following the words "Litzmannstadt-Getto, den". The date will be in the day/month/year format.

ID Card Month

Key the ID Card Month from the field on the left side of the card following the words "Litzmannstadt-Getto, den", using the dictionary provided to assist you. The date will be in the day/month/year format.
