About this project This collection contains registers for military personnel stationed in Oregon. All records will include the individuals name, and some will also have their rank, which unit they are currently serving in, service history, birth dates, and awards received.

Military Register

Choose the "Military Register" form type when the image contains names to key. Some images will have place locations named after people. If an image only contains place locations named after people it should not be keyed and marked as "Cover page, Section header, etc."

Surname

Key the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. Some images contain place locations named after people. We are not keying these place locations.

Key the first name or initial and any middle names as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.Some images contain place locations named after people. We are not keying these place locations.

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.Some images contain place locations named after people. We are not keying these place locations.

Military Day

Key the day from the military date. Military dates include, but are not limited to, enlistment dates, service dates, dates of rank, and retirement dates. When multiple dates appear for an individual key from the latest date.When there is a list of names without dates, use the date from the header. If there isn't a date in the header, leave the date fields empty.

Key the month in its three-letter abbreviation from the military date using the dictionary for assistance. Military dates include, but are not limited to, enlistment dates, service dates, dates of rank, and retirement dates. When multiple dates appear for an individual key from the latest date.When there is a list of names without dates, use the date from the header. If there isn't a date in the header, leave the date fields empty.

Military Year

Key the year from the military date. The year will appear in either a 2 digit or 4 digit format. Do not expand 2 digit years. Military dates include, but are not limited to, enlistment dates, service dates, dates of rank, and retirement dates. When multiple dates appear for an individual key from the latest date. In cases where the year is listed only once for the first individual, copy down the year from the previous entry. When there is a list of names without dates, use the date from the header. If there isn't a date in the header, leave the date fields empty.
