Need help keying this project?
This collection contains various early land records from North Carolina and Tennessee. The land in these records are now all within present-day Tennessee.
The Land Records form type is for all images that contain land records with names. From these images key any names that appear, the grant or warrant number, the date of the record, and the county in which the land is found.
If a name appears more than once in a land record, key this name only once.
Often times there will be multiple dates within a land record. When this occurs, key the date found at the end of the record. If there is no date at the end of the record, key the date at the beginning of the record.
Any land record images that do not contain any names should be marked as "Cover page, Section header, etc."
The Title Board form type is for title boards that contain the collection name, record group number, series number, book number, and year range. From these images key the date range as seen.
Some land record books will contain internal indexes. These images are often a list of names with a page number or grant number listed beside the name. Any index images should be marked as "Index." Names on index images will not be keyed. Images with lists of names that contain additional information, such as acres, dates, or county, are not indexes and should be keyed as "Land Records."
