About this project This collection contains bonds, licenses, oaths and other documents for selling liquor, operating various businesses, city police and city officers for Savannah, Georgia from 1837-1909.

Project Instructions This collection contains bonds, licenses, oaths and other documents for selling liquor, operating various businesses, city police and city officers for Savannah, Georgia from 1837-1904.

We will be keying name and event date for each image. Some images will contain multiple names. Key each name into its own record. Only key the primary names to which the image pertains. For example, do not key a mayors signature, or the names of witnesses.

Event year may be found in the header of some images. Copy event year down to all applicable records.

Bonds and Licenses



Choose the "Bonds and Licenses" form type for pre-printed forms with the word "Bound", "Bond" or "License" found somewhere on the image. These images will contain name and an event date.

Key any titles before the given name, such as "Dr," "Mr," or "Mrs," of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Only prefix values should be keyed into the prefix field. Name will be found at the top of the image, in a column or under a paragraph. Multiple names may be on an image. Key each name as its own record.

Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance.Name will be found at the top of the image, in a column or under a paragraph. Multiple names may be on an image. Key each name as its own record.

Surname

Key the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance.Name will be found at the top of the image, in a column or under a paragraph. Multiple names may be on an image. Key each name as its own record.

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance.Name will be found at the top of the image, in a column or under a paragraph. Multiple names may be on an image. Key each name as its own record.

Event Day

Key the day from the event date as seen on the record. Event date can usually be found next to key words such as: "In Witness Whereof", "Sworn to and subscribed before me, this", "Witness our hands and seals this", "this", "Date of Payment", etc. Copy this date to all individuals on the image to which it applies.

Event Month

Key the month in its three-letter abbreviation from the event date using the dictionary provided to assist you. If the month appears as a number, key as seen. Event date can usually be found next to key words such as: "In Witness Whereof", "Sworn to and subscribed before me, this", "Witness our hands and seals this", "this", "Date of Payment", etc. Copy this date to all individuals on the image to which it applies.

If an image is a microfilm title board as defined in the project instructions, choose the "Microfilm" form type whether or not information is being keyed from the image.

Cover page, Section header, etc

Use the "Cover page, Section header, etc” form type for images that do not contain data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide context for the image set. Example: historical notes, affidavits, ect.


Image with no data

Use the “Image with no data” form type for images that do not contain data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at.
