About this project Depasturing licences were given to allow settlers' cattle to graze on crown lands. The images are of single licences which divulge name, date, district, situation, residence of licensee, and amount of fee. The project difficulty is Easy as the records are legible and orderly.

Displays the Name of Licensee and Date of License. One record per image.

Day

Capture the Day from the date of the license which can be found in the "Date" row. The Day will only be integers between 1 and 31. If no Day appears then mark the field blank.

Capture the Month in the date of license found in the "Date" row. Use the drop-down list to help key the entire spelling of the month.

Year

Capture the Year in the date of license which can be found in the "Date" row. Key the Year as seen. If no Year is given then mark the field blank.

Prefix

Key any titles before the name, such as "Dr" or "Rev" in the Prefix field.

Given Name

Key any first name or initials and any middle names or initials using the drop-down list provided for assistance. If a name does not appear in the list then key the name as seen. If no given name(s) appear then mark the field blank.

Surname

Enter the Surname here as it appears on the image, using the drop-down list to help you. If a Surname does not appear in the list then mark the field blank.

Suffix

Key all titles following the surname, such as "Jr" or "III."

District

Capture the District name found in the "District" row using the drop-down list provided for assistance. If the District is not found in the drop-down list then key as seen. If the District does not appear on the image then mark the field blank.

Item.jpg

Displays the title, " Treasury Register of Licenses to...", the Year, Volume, and Archives Ref No (which is the Item). The Item (Archives Ref No) will be keyed from these images.

Item

Capture the Item which is the Archive Ref No. The Item will normally be in the format of a "number / number". For example, 4/106. Key the Item as seen.
