About this project This collection is from Minnesota and is Spanish America War Muster Rolls and Casualty Lists. Fields to be keyed are: Name, Military Date, Rank, Military City, Military State, Military Country, Residence City, Residence State and Death Date.

Project Instructions
This collection is from Minnesota and is Spanish America War Muster Rolls and Casualty Lists. Fields to be keyed are: Name, Military Date, Rank, Military City, Military State, Military Country, Residence City, Residence State and Death Date.

Dates and Places should be copied down where "Ditto" appears; do not key "Ditto Marks".

Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. Initials should be keyed with a space between them and without entering the periods. The Given Name can be located in the following locations titled: "Name" or "Changes in Officers" or "Commanding Officer".The order of the Given and Surname can switch, so use dictionary provided.

Surname

Key the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. The Surname can be located in the following locations titled: "Name" or "Changes in Officers" or "Commanding Officer".The order of the Given and Surname can switch, so use dictionary provided.

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.

Military Day

When provided, key the Military Day from the Military Date. The Military Date can be located in several locations. If provided, key the Military Date located by each record. If there is not a Military Date for each record then key the earliest date in the header of the image and copy down for every record if provided. If there is a Military Date located in the header and by each record then only key the Military Date by each record.

Military Month

When provided, key the Military Month from the Military Date using the dictionary provided.The Military Date can be located in several locations. If provided, key the Military Date located by each record. When provided, key the Military City which, can be located in one of the following columns titled: "Where" or "Residence" or "Place" or in the Header of the image.If provided, key the Military City located by each record.If there is not a Military City by each record, and if provided, key the Military City in the header of the image and copy down for each record.If there is a Military City located in the header and by each record, then only key the Military City by the record.

Military State

Using the given dictionary and when provided, key the Military State If provided, key the Military State located by each record.If there is not a Military State by each record, and if provided, key the Military State in the header of the image and copy down for each record. Military Country

When provided, key the Military Country.If provided, key the Military Country located by each record. Residence City

Key the Residence City or Town using the dictionary provided for assistance.  If a city or town does not appear in the dictionary then key the city or town as seen. The Residence City is located in the column titled: "RESIDENCE". Only key Residence City when it is labeled in this column.

Residence State

Key the state of residence using the dictionary provided for assistance. The Residence State is located in the column titled: "RESIDENCE". Only key Residence State when it is labeled in this column.

Death Day

When provided, key the death day from the designated death date. The Death Date can be located by the following title of: "Killed" or "Died".

Death Month

When provided, key the death month from the designated death date.  Using the provided dictionary, key the three-letter abbreviation for the month. The Death Date can be located by the following title of: "Killed" or "Died".

Death Year

When provided, key the Death Year from the designated death date. The Death Date can be located by the following title of: "Killed" or "Died".
