Project Instructions
This collection contains land allotment records given to Native Americans in Minnesota.

From these records we are keying the name of the applicant, the child's name, record date, gender, birth year, tribe, and age at 1889. Images will vary in what information is available.

All records will have a primary name that should be keyed. When an English name is given, it should be keyed in the name fields. If an Indian Name is given, it should be keyed in the Indian Name field. If only an Indian name is given it should still be keyed into the Indian Name field and the primary name fields should be left blank.

In some cases the application is for an under-age child. In these cases, the parent is still considered the primary person and their name should be keyed in the name fields. The child's name should be keyed into the Child Given and Child Surname fields. If only an Indian name is given for the child, it should be keyed into the Child Given Field.

The record date is the date of application and will appear at the far left of the image. Dates should not be keyed from the remarks column.

Gender should only be keyed from images that state the gender of the individual and should not be inferred.

Birth Year and Age at 1889 will not appear on most images. Only key an age into the Age at 1889 for images that have an "At in 1889" column. The birth year will typically only appear on images with this age column in the remarks column, and will usually only be for those born after 1889.

Images that only have names and page numbers should be classified as the "Index" form type.
