About this project This collection contains baptism and marriage records from religious denominations not belonging to the church of England in the Isle of Wight area. Denominations include: Wesleyan Methodist, United Methodist and Primitive Methodist records.

Project Instructions This collection contains baptism and marriage records from religious denominations not belonging to the church of England in the Isle of Wight area. Denominations include: Wesleyan Methodist, United Methodist and Primitive Methodist records.

From Baptism Registers we will be keying denomination, county, city, baptism date, name, gender, parents, age and sometimes birth date and baptism city and county. This collection contains several baptism forms. Not all forms contain the same information.

From Marriage Registers we will be keying denomination, district, county, city, marriage date, name, age, father, spouse, and spouse father. This collection only contains one marriage form throughout.

Baptism Register



Choose the "Baptism Register" form type for images that contain information about persons being baptized.

Denomination

Key the denomination as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. If present, denomination may be found in the header by the words "Baptisms Solemnized in the" or something similar.

County

Key the county as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. If present, county may be found in the header by the words "in the County of" or something similar.

City

Key the city as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. If present, city may be found in the header by the words "baptisms solemnized in the (denomination) chapel of [city]" or something similar.

Baptism Day

Key the day from the baptism date as seen on the record. Baptism date may be found in the column labeled "When Baptized", "Baptism" or something similar.

Baptism Month

Key the month in its three-letter abbreviation from the baptism date using the dictionary provided to assist you. If the month appears as a number, key as seen. Baptism date may be found in the column labeled "When Baptized", "Baptism" or something similar.

Baptism Year

Key the year from the baptism date as seen on the record. Baptism date may be found in the column labeled "When Baptized", "Baptism" or something similar.

Prefix

Key any titles before the given name, such as "Dr," "Mr," or "Mrs," of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Only prefix values should be keyed into the prefix field. Name may be foiund in the column labeled Child's Name" or something similar.

Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Initials should be keyed with a space between them and without entering periods. Name may be foiund in the column labeled Child's Name" or something similar.

Surname

Key the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Name may be foiund in the column labeled Child's Name" or something similar.

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Name may be foiund in the column labeled Child's Name" or something similar.

Gender

Key the gender in its full form using the dictionary provided for assistance. Gender may be determined by key words, such as "son of", "daughter of", etc., or by gender specific prefixes. In some cases "male" and "female" will appear next to a name.

Father Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the father of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Parents names may be found in the column labeled "Parents Names".

Father Surname

Key the surname of the father of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Parents names may be found in the column labeled "Parents Names".

Mother Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the mother of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Parents names may be found in the column labeled "Parents Names".

Mother Surname

Key the surname of the mother of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Parents names may be found in the column labeled "Parents Names".

Mother Maiden

Key the maiden name of the mother of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Parents names may be found in the column labeled "Parents Names".

Birth Day

Key the day from the birth date as seen on the record. Birth date may be found in the column labeled "In what Parish, and on what day Born", "Date of Birth", "Birth" or next to the word "Born".

Birth Month

Key the baptism city as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. If present, baptism city may be found in the column labeled "In what Parish, and on what day Born". Only key Baptism city from the record level.

Baptism County

Key the residence county as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance.

Choose the "Marriage Register" form type for images the contain information about persons being married.

Denomination

Key the denomination as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. If present, denomination may be found in the header by the words,  "Marriage solemnized at" or something similar.

District

Key the district as seen on the record. If present, district may be found in the header by the words "in the District of" or something similar.

County

Key the county as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. If present, county may be found in the header by the words "in the County of" or something similar.

City

Key the city as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. If present, city may be found in the header by the words  "Marriage solemnized at the (denomination) church [city]" or similar wording.

Marriage Day

Key the day from the marriage date as seen on the record. Marriage date may be found in the column labeled "When Married".

Marriage Month

Choose the "Subsequent Baptism Register" form type for images that contain additional fields to key on the right side of a spread.

Baptism Day

Key the day from the baptism date as seen on the record. Baptism date may be found in the cloumn "When Baptized".

Baptism Month

Key the month in its three-letter abbreviation from the baptism date using the dictionary provided to assist you. If the month appears as a number, key as seen. Baptism date may be found in the cloumn "When Baptized".

Baptism Year

Key the year from the baptism date as seen on the record. Baptism date may be found in the cloumn "When Baptized".

Baptism City

Key the baptism city as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Baptism city may be found in the column "Where Baptized".

Baptism County

Key the residence county as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Baptism county may be found in the column "Where Baptized".

Choose "Target" form type when the image is of a color and/or grayscale target.

Cover page, Section header, etc

Cover page, Section header, etc” type for images that don’t contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.

Image with no data

Use the “Image with no data” type for images that do not contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only a blank background.
