Special Keying Notes

The only punctuation removed are the periods. For example if the record states the place of birth is New York City, N.Y., U.S.A it should be entered as New York City, NY, USA

If you encounter records with both the married and maiden names listed key only the maiden name in the "Surname" field.

Form No 87

This form type is for images where "Form No 87" appears at the top. This should cover all marriage certificates. For example, "Certificate of Marriage" or "Certificate of Witness to Marriage".

Consular City

Capture the Consulate City as found just below the headings "Consulate of the United States", "American Consular Service", or "Foreign Service of the United States". The Consular City can also be found in the first line on the form following the preprinted italic words "of the United States of America at........". The Consular City is then followed by the Consular Country.

Consular Country

Capture the Consulate Country as found just below the headings "Consulate of the United States", "American Consular Service", or "Foreign Service of the United States". The Consular Country can also be found in the first line on the form following the preprinted italic words "of the United States of America at........". The Consular Country then follows the Consular City. A drop-down list is provided to help identify countries. If a country does not appear in the drop-down list then key as seen.

Marriage Day

Key the day of the Marriage Day as it appears on the record. For example, in "eleventh day November 1874" the day of marriage is 11; in "Oct 17 1874" the day of marriage is 17; in "September 19th 1894" the day of marriage is 19. The marriage date can be found amongst the words "do hereby certify that, on this......day of...., A. D. 19___".

Marriage Month

Key in the date of Marriage Month as it appears on the record. If the month is an integer, substitute the name of the month. If the month is abbreviated, spell out the full name of the month. The marriage date can be found amongst the words "do hereby certify that, on this......day of...., A. D. 19___".

Key in the Marriage Year as it appears on the record. The marriage date can be found amongst the words "do hereby certify that, on this......day of...., A. D. 19___".

Capture the Marriage Location as found following the marriage date and the word "at....". Key as seen.

Capture the Marriage City as found following the marriage location and the words "in the city of....". The Marriage Country often follows the Marriage City on this line. Key only the Marriage City in this field.

Capture the Marriage Country as found following the marriage location and the words "in the city of....". The Marriage City often precedes the Marriage Country on this line. Key only the Marriage Country in this field.

Prefix

Key any titles before the name, such as "Dr" or "Rev" in the Prefix field.

Given

Key the Given name(s) with the assistance of the dictionary provided. The Given name consists of the first name or initial and any middle name or initial. If a Given name is not found in the dictionary then key the name as seen. The Given name on the marriage record pertains to the primary person being married.

Enter the Surname here as it appears on the image, using the drop-down list to help you. The Surname applies to the primary person being married.

Suffix

Key all titles following the surname, such as "Jr" or "III."

Age

Key the Age of the primary person being married. The Age of the primary person can be found following the first "aged" on the record. Key the Age numerically. For example, if the Age appears as "Fifty-one" key 51.

The Birth Location for the primary person can be found following the first "born in". Key as seen.

Spouse Prefix

Key any titles which may appear prior to the Spouse Given Name, using the dictionary provided for assistance. If a title does not appear in the dictionary, key it as seen.

Key the Spouse Given Name as it appears on the record, using the drop-down menu to help. The Spouse Given Name can be found following the "and" after the information for the primary person.
