About this project
For this project we will be keying plaintiff and case information for citizenship cases which were heard before the U.S. Court in Indian Territory to determine citizenship applications to the Cherokee and Creek tribes between the years of 1896-1897.

This collection contains a list of plaintiffs and case information concerning citizenship cases heard before the U.S. Court in Indian Territory. We will be keying name, case name, and case number information from the case file index.
The name information is in the format suffix (if present), surname, given, prefix (if present). If only a single name, such as "Black Dog" is present, then key that as the surname.
In the actual case documents themselves we will key the case number from the folder header at the beginning of each packet of documents. All documents within the packet will be marked as Cover Page, Section Header, etc.
Choose the Folder Cover form type for images of folder covers which will contain a Case Number.

Key the Folder Case Number as seen.

Choose the Plaintiff List form type for indexed lists of plaintiffs. This form will contain columns for Name, File Name, and Case Number.
The Surname is the last name of the primary person to whom the record applies from the Name column and appears in the form of [Surname], [Given Name]. Key the Surname using the dictionary provided for assistance. If the surname does not appear in the dictionary then key the surname as seen. If a name appears in the Name Column not in [Surname], [Given Name] format, such as "Black Dog," then key as a surname.
Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person to whom the record applies using a dictionary if provided for assistance. If a suffix does not appear in a dictionary then key the suffix as seen.
Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person to whom the record pertains from the Name column. The names appear in the form of [Surname], [Given Name]. Use the dictionary provided for assistance. If a name does not appear in the dictionary then key the name as seen.
Key any titles before the Given name, such as "Dr", "Rev", "Mr" or "Mrs", using a dictionary if provided for assistance. If a prefix does not appear in a dictionary then key the prefix as seen.
Key the Case Name found in the File Name column. Key as seen.
Key the Case Number found in the Case Number column. Key as seen.
As you can see you will likely encounter multiple instances of the same case name and case file numbers - remember that you can use F3 to copy from the field above and you can also use Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste information from one field to another.
Cover page, Section header, etc.
Use the “Cover page, Section header, etc” type for images that don’t contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.

Use the “Image with no data” type for images that don’t contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only the blank background or an image with a microfilm target on it.
