This project consists of a single book: a 133 page biographical reference work titled, "Negro Who's Who in California." This book was published in 1948 and focuses primarily upon African American notibles within the community in and around the greater Los Angeles area.

Birth Location
The birthplace is usually found at the beginning of the biography after words such as "born in." The location may include two or more places, for example, a city and state. Enter all parts of the birthplace separated by a comma. Key the name of the birthplace in full, expanding any county, state, or country abbreviations. For example, "Decorah, Ia." would be keyed as "Decorah, Iowa". Likewise, "Santa Cruz Co., Cal." would be keyed as "Santa Cruz County, California." Only key localities such as cities, counties, and states. Do not key generic localities such as "Blue Ridge mountains." Do NOT infer any locality information that is not written on the image. For example, if you know what county Decorah is located in, in Iowa, do not enter it as it is not present on the image.
