Common Keying Errors Found by Reviewers

Questions and Answers

The second page of the Affidavit has names of persons to vouch for the applicant, along with their residence cities. Do I key these persons or not?

The second page of the affidavit is to be marked as a cover page. Nothing is keyed from it. --Paulmd199 01:48, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Q. When last name is shown as hyphenated name, it is denoting that it is the maiden  / previous names and the last names?  How should those be keyed?  All of the hypenated name in the last name field OR just the last name in the last name and the other names in the given name fields?  I have found some people with 4 names hyphenated together, also, which probably designates multiple marriages.   I assume that we are not supposed to be entering the dashes but leaving a space between the names.

A: Enter the hyphenated name in the Surname field - with the dashes between. Annafechter 03:52, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Q. Where there is a one word Indian name, should it be placed in the given or surname field?

A: It should be entered in the Given name field.

Q. Are we keying deceased persons named on the Roblin Roll? I cannot find anything to say not.

A: Yes, key all of the names that appear on the record.
