Q: The project instructions state that we should "Choose the Image No Data form type for images where there is neither keyable data, nor data which is not being keyed but will be marked Cover Page, Section Header, etc. Examples include blank forms, Crew Lists, or Ship's Logs." Does a form count as blank if the ship name is filled in at the top of the sheet with nothing else written on it? Or would it be a Cover Page in that case? --Katerimmer 09:17, 5 January 2012 (UTC) Answer: Only if the forms are blank should the record be considered an Image with no data. So if the record is not a Ship Information form but there is information written on the record then it should be classified as a Cover page, Section header. Annafechter 17:08, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Q: I have a form here that appears to be part of a crew list (page 6, continuing with more information for the crew members on page 7 of it, to be exact). It has no date at the top of it, nor does it have a birth year column. Many of the crew member's first names are abbreviated as well. However, it has a "Wages per Week" column and "To whom to be paid" column, along with a whole slew of information pertaining to fishing ("Share of Fishing Profits", "Character" columns, "Discharge" columns, etc.) The other document in this image set was pertaining to a fishing expedition, which I marked as "Cover page, etc.", but it also contained a date. And thus, I have several questions. Should I use the date from the previous document to key this one and to properly assess the birth year of those in the crew list? Should I just assume all of the crew members nationalities as "British"? (I know the project instructions ask you to name the town if the person is British, but if I already listed the town name do you really need to list it again? The town names of the crew members are as follows: London, Liverpool, Gorleston, Peel, Gorleston, Liverpool, Birkenhead, Birkenhead, Yarmouth, Liverpool, Scarborough, Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool) Do I leave the keying information areas not listed on the document simply blank? Do I even key this document? I find the whole thing very perplexing.
Q: I have a document headed "Merchant Shipping (Fishing Boats) Act, 1883", and below that "Application for Exemption". There is one ship listed on it with some information about it. The only date is a stamped date of 19 July 88. Not sure if this is a document I should be entering. It's obviously not a crew list but the only fields requested from the only other form type, Ship Information, are the Registry Day, Month and Year. Not sure if this fits, and if the stamp date is the Registry date. Please help so that I don't make a mistake - do I key this page at all? Q: A couple of questions. Some documents have a hand written date- do I key that if there is no stamped date? Pages of the Log are shown in the examples as being Cover Pages- but some of these have the names of crewmen on them. In that case do I list any names that are mentioned and call it a Crew List?

I am trying to do this project also but getting no answers to straightforward questions AND have a 'need for improvement' - so why am I not told directly where I am making a mistake?
I posted my question above weeks ago and still no answer. All I see is more questions from other people being added - no answers for them either. I simply cannot finish keying this document without an answer to my question. If you want our help, and are giving the option for us to ask questions, why is nobody answering them? Please help so I can make a contribution!!!
