I have now done quite a few of these and would guess that well over 50% of crew members were born in Ireland or Northern Ireland, but there are very few Irish localities on the dropdown. I have made a list/ table in "Word" of about 50 of the most common localities I have encountered in Ireland, Northern Ireland and a few in Scotland and will be happy to email them to you if you let me know which email address?

The date is usually correct for the whole of the crew list except where a seaman has been signed on in another port. I have found it very useful with names to check the "sign on" signatures against the "discharged" signatures. Another question with birth place abbreviations; often for example Liverpool is shorten to Lpl, L'pl, L'pool, for Belfast shorten B'fast, Bfast and for Birkenhead to B'head or Bh'd. Is it correct to put the apostrophe in or do you omit it?

On many occassions where documents have been lodged with Consulated on the certificate pages of the ships log again there is no stamping of "Received at ..." so I have used the earliest date the Consular has signed the the log entry. 	Q: When a town is listed under Nationality, do I key it as a birthplace, such as Liverpool, or do I key in the Nationality as British - or both?
