I have an entry for the "Leicestershire Regt. Hononary Colonel Rt. Hon. J. J. R., Duke of Rutland, KG, GOB. ....11 Aug 88"
Should I key:- Rank Colonel - Prefix Rt Hon - Given J J R - Surname ????? - Suffix KG GOB - Date 11 Aug 1888
Where does "The Duke of Rutland" go if anywhere?
A. My understanding from the general keying standards is that "Duke of Rutland" would be keyed as the suffix. Rutland is not his family name, just his title. ~lrs~
Q I have pages titled "Majors retired on full or retired pay or on a pension, War Services" The page then gives rank, initials, last name and then gives was services. The page # is 1029 are we transcribing these? Pclesle Q I have I think the last set of records for this project and I would like some help. the entries are for heads of state under the heading:- order of the garter, order of the Thistle and Order of St. Patrick, we have numerous entries like 1) His Majesty Francis Joseph I Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, Colonel in Chief Dragoon Guards 2) His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, KT, KP, GCMG, GCVO, Colonel in Chief Royal Fusiliers &c. Q: I have many entries like the one below, Rank, Given, Surname and regiment are OK. Can someone tell me what I enter as the Military Year and Place? "Captain H. Allcard served in the South African war in 1899-1900, 1902, and took part in the operations in the Orange Free State from Feb to May 1900; in the Transvaal, east of Pretoria, Oct 1900; in the Orange River Colony May to 29th Nov 1900, including actions at Biddulphsberg, Wittebergen and Caledon River; and in Cape Colony, south of Orange River, 1899-1900 (mentioned in despatches, DSO )"
- A: I would think 1902. That is the latest date shown. -- Wiedwoman 19:35, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- A: In this case I have put 1902 and South Africa as you couldn't be sure where in South Africa he was in 1902. Hope this is correct.
