Plouffe, also spelt Blouf, Blouffe, or Ploof, is a surname of a large and firmly related family in North America's Northeast, spread out between Quebec in Canada and New York and Vermont in the United States.
Patriarch of the family was a famous early pioneer and landlord in New France, Jean Blouf, who is noted in history as one of the Company of One Hundred Associates who established himself and his family near Montreal, helping establish the town of Vercheres at the fort of the time.
Family includes variety of notable American and Canadian businessmen, soldiers, and civil servants since the 1600s from a variety of backgrounds. Family remains mainly in Southern Quebec and Upstate New York with a large hub of it's ancestry being the North Country in Franklin County near the Awkwesasne Mohawk reservation.
