Northumberland is a county in Virginia. It was formed in about 1645 from the following county/ies: original (formed from Chickacoan Indian District). Northumberland began keeping birth records in |——, marriage records in 1735, and death records in |——. It began keeping land records in 1650, probate records in 1652, and court records in 1650. For more information, contact the county at P.O. Box 129 Heathsville 22473-0129. On the attached map, Northumberland is located at J5. Although not authorized until 1648, Northumberland was in use by about 1645. Record loss, 1710. Records fragmented. Birth and death records, 1650—1810, are in the St. Stephen’s Parish records.
