The House of Habsburg, also spelt Hapsburg, is perhaps the most influential and widespread of royal families in known history, especially European history, having had powerbases throughout much of Europe from the times of the Frankish kingdoms and Holy Roman Empire until the defeat of Austria-Hungary in World War One, when it's final major dominion through the predominant Habsburg-Lorraine branch was defeated and consequentially dethroned in the chaos following the First World War and preceding the Second World War.

The Habsburg line has included Austrian, Hungarian, Spanish, German, Mexican, and French royalty and nobility, and continues to this day as a powerful family despite it's loss of power as questionably the greatest house of Catholic monarchs in history.
