Erie is a county in New York. It was formed in 1821 from the following county/ies: Niagara. The earliest land deed in Erie was recorded in 1800. Surrogate's Court records begin in 1800. One can contact the Surrogate's Court at 92 Franklin St., Buffalo 14202. For more information, contact the county at 25 Delaware Ave., Buffalo 14202. On the attached map, Erie is located at B3. In 1813 the British burned the courthouse in Buffalo, then the seat of Niagara County, destroying records that also included Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties.
